Talkin' bout MySpace generation

New figures from the Office For National Statistics offer a fascinating snapshot of life for Britain's 12million two to 15-year-olds.

But they also paint a picture of young people who are overweight and boozing regularly.

Thirty per cent of children are obese - up six per cent since 1995.

And one in five 11 to 15-year-olds - around 640,000 - drank alcohol in the last week.

Alarmingly, over the past 20 years the number of girls who sank booze in the last week has risen from 17 to 20 per cent.

But the figure for boys FELL from 24 to 20 per cent. Underlining our kids' tech-savvy nature, 90 per cent of 12 to 15-year-olds and more than half of eight to 11-year-olds use mobile phones.
